The ‘Retail Insider Top 100 Movers & Shakers in Multi-channel’ report for 2015 has been launched to celebrate the stars of the sector that are making a difference in pushing their businesses to become more digitally focused.
At the head of the report, which is sponsored by K3 Retail, sits Angela Ahrendts of Apple closely followed by Chris North and Ajay Kavan at Amazon and in third spot Sebastian James and Andrew Harrison of Dixons Carphone.
As in previous years the objective is to not only applaud those individuals who are working within large organisations but to also recognise the lesser known people who are equally influential across the industry for their pushing of boundaries and development of new business models.
Hence alongside Ahrendts in the top 10 places are the likes of Simon Mottram, founder of Rapha, and Anthony Fletcher, CEO of Graze. And moving further down there are entrepreneurial types Chris Griffin and Matthew Purt at Anatwine and Simon Harrow at Elevaate.
The report has been compiled over the past year by a system of consultation with a range of experts from within the retail industry who help create a long list of potential constituents of the report.
A specially selected Advisory Panel then reduced this long down to a Top 100 and also ranked a Top 35 of the most influential individuals from within these 100 names.
This year’s Advisory Panel included: Andy Harding – chief customer officer at House of Fraser; Jonathan Wall – group e-commerce director at Shop Direct Group; Alison Lancaster – interim marketing director at Bravissimo; Vince Gwilliam, senior partner at Bridgepoint; Steve Robinson, CEO at Achica; and Kate Walsh, formerly head of retail and consumer practice at Ridgeway Partners.
This is the sixth year of the publication of the report and such is the ever changing nature of this part of the retail sector that the number of new names that enter the top 100 each year differs dramatically from the previous report.
For the 2015 version there are 23 newcomers represented and it is also the first time that a female has held the number one slot. Ahrendts has earned this top billing for her recent efforts at Apple but it is equally for her pioneering multi-channel work at former employer Burberry where she led its move into bringing digital to the heart of the business.
