Amazon dominates Digital Retail Innovations Top 50 report

Amazon has bagged the top three places in the Digital Retail Innovations 2017 Report with its Alexa technology retaining its position at the head of the table. The online juggernaut also took another position in the top 10, with its four highly-rated innovations comprising: Echo, Go, Logistics, and Dash.

This is the fourth time Retail Insider has produced its popular technology report, which is sponsored by Webloyalty, and as always it shines a light on to the future of retail technology globally by showcasing the very latest trends and influences across the sector.

Along with Amazon at the head of the Top 50 there are surprisingly several traditional automotive companies featured. Both Mercedes, with its drone delivery van, and Jaguar, with a new in-payments car system, scored very well with the Advisory Panel.

Deliveroo’s ‘Roobox’ production kitchens finished just behind Amazon’s top trio and is clearly an innovation to watch out for into the future as it could potentially have a serious impact on food delivery.

The report also contains the Top 15 Innovations from around the world, which was topped by Alibaba’s Buy+ Virtual Mall, that was closely followed by JD.com Deliveries by Drone.

About the Report:

All the innovations have been assessed by an Advisory Panel of senior retail experts, which included: Jonathan Wall from ShopDirect, Nadia Shouraboura at Hointer, Paul Wilkinson at Tesco Labs and Daniel Heaf from Burberry.

An initial long list was reduced down to 50 innovations from the UK and 15 from overseas. Each innovation on the list was then scored by members of the Advisory Panel on four criteria – how innovative, how potentially commercial, potential influence across the sector, and potential benefit to consumers?
