Pashley launches Townhouse Bicycle

As a fair-weather cyclist a rainy day in London meant the tube was used rather than my bike to travel to the launch of the bespoke bicycle – The Townhouse Bicycle – at a listed historic house in East London.

Paul West at home with Pashley

British cycle brand Pashley has collaborated with London-based design house Considered Things to create the special edition bike that takes inspiration from the Stepney Townhouse of Considered Things co-founders Paul and Michelle West.

Paul West says: “The Townhouse Bicycle is simply the bicycle I wanted to own and live with – a piece of quiet luxury that brings beauty and simplicity to every journey, and to life at home.”

Hand-built in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Townhouse Bicycle is handcrafted by Pashley from Reynolds 531 steel hand-finished in a historic, understated colour palette drawn directly from the interiors of the Stepney Townhouse. Subtle tonal contrasts and gold-accented details complement the bicycle’s refined form, while hand-stitched leather grips and a Brooks B17 saddle add warmth and texture.

Andy Smallwood, CEO of Pashley, says: “Our collaboration is very much a showcase for our shared approach and our appreciation of exquisite design, materials and celebration of the artisan. This is such a unique opportunity to truly consider every aspect of how the bicycle transcends the functional and becomes a part of life, seamlessly blending into their surroundings, inspiring the rider to really appreciate their urban environment and city commute.”

The rain had stopped by the time of my return journey to North London and a cycle ride back to the office would have been very pleasurable.
