Top UK drinks retailers websites perform strongly in August
The top five best performing retailers in the table of the UK’s leading drinks retailing websites made a break-away from the rest of the pack with their increased scores in August compared with last month.
The top five all improved their performances, including top placed The Whisky Shop that achieved a score of 7.46 out of 10 compared with 6.74 last month, according to the rankings of the top UK drinks retailers’ websites produced exclusively for Retailinsider.com by website testing specialist Sitemorse.
To produce the rankings Sitemorse runs automated software that page-by-page reads the first 125 pages of each website and analyses on the basis of six key criteria – function, code quality, user experience, accessibility, performance and SEO capability.
The top four all stayed in the same order and joining them in the top 5 was Lidl that moved up four places with a score of 5.39 that pushes its rival Aldi down one place. August has had its fair share of movement with the highest climber Waitrose, which moved up five places into 15th spot. The Wine Society also made a move upwards of three places to ninth spot.
On a more negative note the poorer performing retailers at the bottom of the table also showed the same consistency this month as the leaders. Four of the bottom six retained the same positions as in July.
Virgin Wines stayed plumb last with a score of 1.78 again and Sunday Times Wine Club is only marginally better with 1.88 again, which is itself only one place above the continually disappointing Selfridges that dropped one place purchase online tadalafil into 22nd spot with a score of only 2.04.
Also disappointing this month was The Drink Shop that has fallen five places to 16th spot with a score of 3.05 compared with 3.77 in July. It just managed to pip Majestic Wine that fell four places to 17th spot.
These Sitemorse results come against the backdrop of mightily impressive trading for online drinks retailers showing year-on-year growth of 23% in July. According to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index this compares with the mere 9% year-on-year gains enjoyed by the retail sector as a whole for this same period. This was the slowest growth since January 2010 for the overall sector.
Two retailers were excluded from the Sitemorse testing this month, with both Sainsbury’s and Londis again not included in the table because of their continued reliance on JavaScript.
