‘Movers & Shakers in Multi-channel / E-commerce 2014 Top 100’ launched
Paul Coby and Mark Lewis of John Lewis top the fifth annual ‘Retail Insider Top 100 Movers & Shakers in Multi-channel/e-commerce’ report that celebrates the achievements of the people operating in this most dynamic part of the retail industry.
They are followed by John Walden and Bertrand Bodson of Home Retail Group and just behind in third place is Robin Phillips of Waitrose – who will later this year be moving over to Boots,
The report – which is sponsored by K3 Retail – has been compiled over the past 12 months through consultation with a range of experts from within the retail industry including consultants, service providers, recruitment specialists and senior retailers.
An Advisory Panel initially reduced a long list of individuals down to a Top 100 and then ranked a Top 25 of the most influential people from within these 100 names.
This year’s Advisory Panel comprised: Peter Williams – chairman, Boohoo.com; Jonathan Wall – group e-commerce director, Shop Direct Group; Andy Harding – executive director of multi-channel, House of Fraser; Sue Shipley, senior head-hunter; Christina Starkey – consultant, Odgers Berndtson; Alison Lancaster – interim group marketing director, McArthurGlen Group; and James Bilefield – non-executive director and investor.
This latest Movers & Shakers report is indicative of the changes that have taken place in the industry as it contains only 22 of the original names found in the first version that was compiled in 2011, which encompassed a lesser 70 individuals. Over the course of the five years of the report there have been only 16 names ever-present.
The number of different people featured over this time is a hefty 304 – from a total of 196 different companies. Further highlighting how this part of the market changes so dramatically is the fact that there as as many as 47 people included this year that have not featured in any previous reports.
Among the newcomers in this year’s elite Top 25 of the report are John Roberts and Yossi Erdman of AO.com, Neil Ashworth of Collect+, Duncan Grant of The Entertainer, Ning Li of Made.com and Andrew Robb of Farfetch.
The non-retailer section of the report containing the ‘Service Providers / Enablers’ also includes many new names compared with last year including Peter Keenan of Zapp, Steve Rothwell of Eagle Eye, and Chris Griffin of Anatwine.
