The Drink Shop climbs table of top UK online drinks retailers in January
Independent drinks retailer The Drink Main information about tadalafil Shop delivered the most improved online performance among the Top UK drinks websites in January, according to analysis undertaken exclusively for Retail Insider by online specialist Sitemorse.
Its strong performance took it into the top 10 as it moved up eight places with a score of 3.61 out of 10 compared with 2.71 in December. This is still some way off the 6.43 that Spar (UK) achieved, which is slightly below the 6.79 it notched up last month.
To produce the rankings Sitemorse runs automated software that page-by-page reads the first 125 pages of each website and analyses on the basis of six key criteria – function, code quality, user experience, accessibility, performance and SEO capability.
Spar (UK) still managed to fend off the pretenders to its crown, notably Budgens that moved up one place into second spot, edging out British Airways Wine Club that lost a little ground as its score slipped from 5.74 to 5.48 this time.
The Drink Shop joins The Whisky Shop in the exclusive club of small independents in the top 10 as the whisky specialist holds its fourth spot. It has been a consistently strong performer throughout the period of Sitemorse’s testing.
It is worth mentioning Aldi, which moved up one place to sixth spot (still two places above rival Lidl), as it has just launched an online wine shop in the UK – that includes both the in-store range and some online exclusives in a range spanning 90 wines.
The major movers this month are Oddbins that declined five places to 11th spot, and Naked Wines that slipped the same amount into 20th spot. It is a little adrift of the website of parent company Majestic Wines that held its position in 9th spot.
This comes alongside it reporting strong trading over the Christmas period. Total sales grew 42% for the 10 weeks to January 4 (which included sales from Naked Wines), and on a pro forma basis they increased 12.2%.
Londis and Sainsbury’s were both excluded from the Sitemorse testing this month because of their sites’ reliance on JavaScript.
