BEERmerchants.com most improved UK online drinks retail website in July
BEERmerchants.com has stormed up the table of the Top UK drinks websites in July, according to analysis undertaken exclusively for Retail Insider by online specialist Sitemorse, as it delivers the most improved performance this month.
It’s strong improvement, which has seen it climb 14 places to eighth spot in the table with a score of 3.94 out of 10 compared with 2.60 last month, compares dramatically with The Whisky Shop that has declined badly.
It has fallen 16 places from top spot in June to 17th spot this month with a score of 3.06 versus 5.58 last month. This is the lowest ranking it has had since Sitemorse began testing the drinks websites for Retail Insider.
To produce the rankings Sitemorse runs automated software that page-by-page reads the first 125 pages of each website and analyses on the basis of six key criteria – function, code quality, user experience, accessibility, performance and SEO capability.
These two big movers epitomize what has been a month of great change in the table. No retailer holds the same spot as in June. Other major movers include The Drink Shop that slips five places to 11th spot and The Wine Society that has dropped six places to 20th spot. It now sits just above Marks & Spencer, which fell four places to 21st spot.
Fortnum & Mason has also had a tough July as it tumbles seven places to 18th spot. This is in contrast to Majestic Wine that climbs seven places to 13th spot. Its rise has coincided with a successful month for sister business Naked Wines that moves up three places to take it off the bottom spot this month. Its place has been taken by Tesco that declines two places with a score of only 2.02 out of 10.
Such moves come at a time when online sales across all categories enjoyed strong year-on-year growth of 17% in June, according to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index. The average basket value of goods bought online moved up to £80.34 compared with £75.11 in June 2015.
