‘Movers & Shakers in Retail Top 100’ 2018 report launches
Retail Insider has launched the 2018 edition of the ‘Movers & Shakers in Retail Top 100’ report highlighting the key individuals in retail that are most effectively using the power of digital to push their organisations forward.
This is the ninth year that we have produced such a report, with the sponsor K3, and as always the findings shine a light not only one the most influential individuals but by extension also the sectors where digital technology is at its strongest.
Whereas last year the Top 10 focus was very fashion-orientated in 2018 other sectors such as food also make the grade represented by players including Amazon, Ocado and Graze.
The fashion contingent remain an influential force, however, with clothing aggregators ASOS and Zalando both in the Top 10 although the fashion brands such as Ted Baker, which were previously in the Top 10, drop slightly.
At the very top of this year’s report the panel have once again decided that the senior management of FarFetch (Jose Neves, Stephanie Phair and Elliot Jordan) deserve to be number one for the second year running.
Sponsored again by K3 the report lists 100 individuals from the sector, with the Top 40 in ranked order based on criteria such as their achievements in the last 12 months, future potential and innovative capabilities.
The rankings were decided by a specially selected Advisory Panel which this year comprised: Jonathan Wall, retail advisor; Alison Lancaster, interim digital marketing director at Fanatics (International); Indira Thambiah, CEO of Roof Maker; Orlando Martins, founder of ORESA Executive Search; Daniel Bobroff, founder of Coded Futures; Mark Felix, general manager of home services at MoneySupermarketGroup; Zia Zareem-Slade, customer experience director at Fortnum & Masons; Anthony Fletcher, CEO of Graze; and David Kohn customer and e-commerce director at Heal’s.
This year’s report also shows how company founders who remain on board and at the top of their creations are driving digital innovation. In the Top 10 alone there are five founder figures represented including GymShark’s Ben Francis, Simon Mottram of Rapha Racing and Tim Steiner at online grocer Ocado, giving the lie to the assumption that constant new blood is required to keep fresh thinking on the agenda.
